Peter Alonso hit 2 HR’s and Tim Tebow went 2-3 as St. Lucie is defeated by Jupiter 10-2 in the last game of the series for the two teams.
St. Lucie scored first when former Gator Peter Alonso hit his 11th home run of the season, making the score 1-0. Juptier answered with a run in the 3rd and 3 in the 5th inning to make it 4-1 Jupiter.
Alonso hit his 2nd homer of the game, a solo shot in the bottom half of the 6th inning to narrow Jupiter’s lead to 4-2.
Jupiter broke the game open in the 7th and 8th innings when they scored 2 and 4 runs respectively to make the score 10-2 after 8 innings.
In the bottom of the ninth the Mets tried to get a rally started as both Emmanuel Zabala and Tebow hit singles to lead off the inning, placing runners on first and second. Wuilmer Becarra hit into a forceout which forced out Zabala at third and advanced Tebow to second and Becarra to first. Jeff McNeil hit into a game ending double play to end the game.
Tebow went 2-3 with 2 singles, a walk and a strikeout. It was Tebow’s second straight two-hit game and his third multi-hit game in his last four games. Tebow also stole his first base of the season which delighted the crowd there for Gator night.
Tebow’s walk was highlighted by a 8 pitch at bat in which he fouled off 3 pitches at 97 mph and eventually walked.
Tebow, Alonso and McNeil each had 2 hits for the Mets tonight.
The Mets hit the road tomorrow as they face off with the Florida Fire Frogs with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm Eastern.
