Tim Tebow blasted a home run to right field and added a double and Joseph Shaw pitched eight solid innings in a Mets 3-2 victory over the Fire Frogs in Kissimmee this afternoon.
Joseph Shaw pitched a great game giving up only 2 runs on eight hits. As the Mets pitching staff was severely depleted from the 15 inning game last night, Shaw gave the Mets the innings they needed to rest their relievers today.
The Fire Frogs struck first with a home run by Andrew Daniel in the 2nd and a Brett Cumberland RBI double in the 3rd inning.
Jhona Urena led off the 4th inning for the Mets with a triple and came in to score on a Peter Alonso groundout. The next batter Tebow blasted a homer to right, his fourth this season and 15th RBI of the year in the FSL.
Jeff McNeil rounded out the scoring in the 6th inning for St. Lucie as Patrick Mazeika doubled to right field scoring McNeil from second.
Tebow hit a double down the left field line in the 8th inning. He went to third when a errant pickoff throw went into center field. After a Mazeika walk putting runners on first and third with one out, they were left stranded on base.
Tebow finished the day 2-4 with a HR (4) double (5) RBI (15) and two strikeouts.
Tebow’s batting average rises to .317. He now has 7 home runs in his minor league career, which is now 2 behind Deion Sanders’ total of 9 homers in his minor league career.
